Summership

Eight weeks. Real research. Open to every student in India.

Summership is a structured, eight-week virtual internship program run by the Vicharanashala Lab, designed to answer a difficult question: can every student — regardless of which institution they attend — get access to a high-quality research internship at an IIT?

The answer, since 2026, is yes.

Summership runs end-to-end on Samagama and Yaksha, the lab’s internship management platform and AI layer. Student registration, application screening, AI-conducted interviews, offer letter issuance, and ongoing engagement are all handled autonomously. This means a 4-person core team can run what would otherwise require 20–30 coordinators — without sacrificing quality, structure, or student experience.

The program is explicitly designed to be inclusive. Tier 2 and Tier 3 institution students — who are routinely locked out of research exposure by network gatekeeping and coordination barriers — are equally eligible. The application process is standardised and the screening is AI-conducted, removing the informal filters that typically disadvantage first-generation and non-metro students.

Summership 2026 — By the Numbers

Metric Count
Students Registered 8,428
AI-Conducted Interviews 5,032
Offer Letters Issued 2,943
Autonomous Messages via Yaksha 4,57,728

The program is affiliated with IIT Ropar and aligned with the lab’s broader mandate under the NEP 2020 push for structured student development and research exposure.
